Cretaceous Channels and Associated Deposits of Southern Alberta and Northern Montana

This four-day field course involves outcrop examination of prolific hydrocarbon-bearing units in the subsurface of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. The course will be of interest to geologists, geophysicists, and engineers working on clastic and mixed clastic-carbonate reservoirs in the Foreland Basin of Western Canada. This course can be tailored to meet specific company requirements with respect to scheduling dates.

This course is run only as a company-specific field trip, with number of participants restricted to 14 including instructor. An all inclusive price can be negotiated (depends on # participants). Please contact Reinson Consultants Ltd. for more information.

Sunday, Day 1	Depart Calgary at 0745 hours. Drive to Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park to examine Milk River Formation. Drive to Coutts border crossing and on to Shelby, Mt., arrival time approximately 1730 hours. Accommodation: Comfort Inn Tel: (406) 434-2212
Monday, Day 2	At 0800 hours drive to Great Falls Airport for regional overview. Drive to Belt, view outcrops of Swift and Morrison Formations, Jurassic/Cretaceous contact and Cutbank/Sunburst/Jurassic relationships along the Smith and Missouri Rivers. Tuesday, Day 3	At 0800 hours drive to examine Missouri River sections northeast of Great Falls. Excellent exposures of Lower Mannville Channels occur at several dam locations. Drive to Giant Springs State Park in Great Falls. Return to Heritage Inn. Accommodation: Return to Heritage Inn.
Wednesday, Day 4	At 0800 drive to Ulm Pushkin State Park. Examine outcrop of Bootlegger Sandstone (Bow Island equivalent). Return trip to Calgary. Arrival time approximately 1800 hours.
